Giving back to the community and helping out those who are less fortunate is one of the things I like to do year round.  There are so many different ways to give back, help others in need and give to the community and it’s easier than you might think.  Here are some of my favorite ways to give back during the holidays and throughout the year –

Soup and Homeless Shelters

My friend and I often get together and make a few gallons of homemade soup that we then take down to one of the local homeless shelters downtown.  It’s freezing at this time of year up north and if a bowl of soup can make someone feel better and warm them up then I will gladly help out a few people who are in need.  There are so many homeless people downtown in my area that It makes me sad to think some are going without food and shelter.

Donate Old Clothes

I change my closet up a lot and I used to just toss out my old clothes but a couple of years ago there was a post on a facebook page asking what people wanted for the holidays.  Some wanted a new car, some wanted gaming systems but this one family stood out, they wanted clothes. Any clothes.  They had recently lost their home due to a fire and along with their home, they lost everything else.  I went through my closet and my kids closet and sent them some clothes, not just old ones but some new things that I had never worn, they needed them more than me.  Their story made my heart melt and helping them out was the least I could do.

Donate a Photo

Donating can be as easy as snapping a photo and choosing your favorite cause!  The Donate a Photo app by Johnson & Johnson is a great way to give back to those in need and you can help spread the word via the app on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to help inspire your friends to donate!  You can donate one photo per day, every day.

The app is available in the app store and downloads quickly onto your device, once the app is downloaded open it up and create your account via email, facebook and other options.

Choose the charity you would like to donate to then snap a photo with your phone or you can even use a photo that is already on your phone.

fOnce you donate your first photo you can schedule reminders to be set for each day and time that you would like to donate another photo, it’s so simple and if something as easy as donating a photo can help people in need then we should all do it!

“Gifts of Joy” holiday catalogue

For each Gift of Joy purchase, Johnson & Johnson will match each donation up to $450,000.  Instead of buying Holiday Cards this year my family and I will be purchasing a Gift of Joy gift, every little bit helps! Johnson & Johnson products have been offered through Save the Children’s emergency programs to help support basic health and hygiene needs for families.

**Johnson & Johnson has curated a list of trusted causes, and you can donate a photo to one cause, once a day. Each cause will appear in the app until it reaches its goal, or the donation period ends. If the goal isn’t reached, the cause will still get a minimum donation.
