Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon
Now correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure this sample is of a 12 year old Bourbon! Spirits like Bourbon taste so much better when they have aged and this one was really, really good! I don’t know why but the smell of this one reminds of white wine.
There is a little sweetness to this Bourbon, it has notes of toffee, a hint of resin and leaves a creamy sweet kind of aftertaste.
Amrut Single Malt Whiskey
The word “Amrut” comes from the word “Elixir Of Life”. Amrut Single Malt Whisky is made from selected barley that was grown at the bottom of the Himalaya mountains, it has been nurtured by the flowing water and cultivated by old and traditional agricultural practices.
I love how much goes into making whiskey and the history of each batch, pretty amazing. This has a light flavor with a little spice in the aftertaste, I’m not a big whisky fan but my husband liked this one!
Santis Swiss Peated Whiskey
Please don’t laugh, but I think this whisky smells like bacon, my husband doesn’t agree he says it smells like whisky, but I’m saying bacon. Now that would be a fantastic invention, Bacon flavored whisky, maybe I’m onto something?
This Whiskey is aged in oak barrels and has a subtle aroma of applewood smoke, smoked ham (probably why I’m smelling bacon), peat and malt. I actually didn’t mind this Whiskey, maybe because it tasted different, it has a more of a gentle flavor with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban Scotch Whiskey
This has a really weird name, but has a Scottish name, my native country so that explains it! This is a 10 year old Whiskey, matured in the American White Oak Casks before being transferred into specially selected ruby port pipes from the Quintas or wine estates of Portugal.
This has a slight minty aroma to it and I was surprised at how sweet this whiskey is! It also has a nice aftertaste, sort of like chocolate and orange with the bitterness of the Whiskey, I surprisingly liked this one too!
Nikka Yoichi 10 Yo Japanese Whiskey
I can’t quite place the smell on this one, it smells like whiskey and something else but I’m just not able to put my finger on it! This is a ten year old, elegantly peaty single malt Whiskey from Nikka’s beautiful Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido. The whiskey is made like it used to be made in Scotland with small direct fire stills and matured in the finest wood the company can find.
This whisky has more of a light taste with some fruitiness coming through, I wasn’t too keen on this one but Paul liked it and said it was flavorful!
I never knew how much work and history goes into creating Whiskey and Bourbon, I love that there is a history behind each spirit. They are definately high quality spirits and I’m pretty sure you won’t find most of them in your local grocery store.
Flaviar is a great way to sample, taste and explore new spirits from all over the globe without having to pay the full price or jump on a plane for that matter!
