Okay, so some of us are morning people and some of us still wish we were teenagers and could sleep until lunchtime, I’m in between, I’m not a morning person but I wish I could sleep in until 9am most days. unfortunately school days are back, but it’s not about me this time, it’s about my kids. I have to get them up for school, compose myself, make sure they are fed, dressed, hydrated, awake and out the door on time. My son just started first grade, he was at Kindergarten for a year before that and I was seriously one of the most disorganized people on the planet when it came to getting them ready, I had to do something about it and fast before First Grade started. So I cooked up a plan to be organized, efficient and have everything in order.
Choose an outfit the night before
Last year, I would wait until the morning to pick out my sons outfit, this took up about 15 minutes of our morning rush, then i’d have to get him ready and it didn’t make morning any easier. Now we pick an outfit the night before school and so in the morning, my son can just get up, get dressed and be ready. He always used to leave his shoes just laying around and we would rush to find those, make sure those are in place too, It’s a time saver!
I notice that when my son gets an ample amount of sleep, he wakes up brighter and more refreshed, I used to let him stay up until around 10pm and that didn’t work out too good, he would get tired in school which led to some pretty cranky behavior. Now he goes to bed between 8 and 9pm, that extra hour or two of sleep does him the world of good and he has been doing amazing in first grade this year!
Pack Easy Snacks For Breakfast, Lunch and Snacktime
My son is a super picky eater, he doesn’t like certain textures and if he doesn’t like the look of it, he won’t try it. It’s frustrating to say the least but all I can do is work with him on eating different things and try to make it easier for him to eat at school. When he was in Kindergarten I gave him lunch money for the first few weeks in the hope that if he was hungry enough he would eat and try new things, that didn’t work it just made him hungry and cranky. Now I just add food that he will like and send him off to school with a packed lunch filled with thing I know he will eat.
